Leo Cangianelli became the Vice President of The Walsh Group in 1996. His responsibilities include creating and monitoring project budgets, coordinating project activities, and new business activities.
Captain Leo A. Cangianelli is a retired senior Naval Officer with 30 years of highly visible operational, command and staff experience. He spent the last 11 years of his Navy career serving as Director of the United States Navy Drug and Alcohol Program. During his tenure, drug abuse among junior Navy personnel decreased from 48% in 1980 to less than 2% ten years later. His expertise was called upon to represent the Navy before the House Appropriations Committee during hearings investigating possible drug abuse surrounding the crash on the flight deck of the USS Nimitz in 1981.
Mr. Cangianelli has been involved in workplace drug testing for nearly 20 years. He chaired the Navy Drug Laboratory Urinalysis Coordinating Committee for more than a decade and has conducted over 60 laboratory inspections.
Mr. Cangianelli has also served as a consultant to the Maryland Governor's Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission's Drug Free Workplace Initiative where he established a statewide drug testing and employee assistance network for small businesses.
Mr. Cangianelli serves as a Member of the Substance Abuse Professional Administrators Association, and was a recipient of the American Association of Clinical Chemists Outstanding Speaker Award. He has also appeared as a drug abuse expert on national television news and commentary programs, including CBS Morning News.
Mr. Cangianelli graduated from Frostburg State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education.
